My 18 year old daughter had never surfed, before, and was able to get up during her one hour lesson. If you've ever tried surfing, you know it's hard, and teaching someone to stand so soon is remarkable. She had a group lesson, but several instructors were in the water at the same time. Her main instructor, Bird, did a wonderful job, and most of the hour was a private lesson with him. She was also assisted by Babac, Malina, and Tiana. Everyone was enthusiastic and supportive. And, they all work their tails off in the water. They've got to be exhausted by the end of each day. I highly recommend paying for the photo package they offer. I took photos with my iphone, and there was no comparison. Their photos are close up, clear, and capture the moment perfectly. Mine were too far away from the subjects to be useful, at all. 10/10 recommend this company for your surf lessons!

WOW! Shawn was my instructor and he was awesome. Very knowledgeable, encouraging and I was able to actually stand up. It was the best part of our vacation. I'm 60 years young, in mediocre shape and was able to catch waves thanks to Shawn. It was super windy which made it even more challenging but with Shawn knowing when I should start paddling I was able to catch the waves and stood up several times. What a thrill. Would recommend it for anyone who has no surf experience and is motivated to give it a try.

As we were planning our trip to Hawaii learning how to surf was at the top of our list. I picked Surf HNL because they were close to our hotel in Ko'Olina (only about 15 mins away). We couldn't have have been happier with our pick! The staff was amazing! We had 6 people in our party including my 68 year old Mom! We got her a private lesson so she could get some extra attention. And her instructor Matt took great care of her! Everyone had a great time! And we bought the go-pro videos and pics which came out fantastic! An hour lesson was plenty of time. We had no idea how exhausting it would be! I would highly recommend Surf HNL!

Our 9-year-old grandson had a one-hour private lesson with Laka and thoroughly enjoyed himself. The instructor was patient and helped him get the feel of surfing and taught him how to balance on the board, riding with him to help him build up his confidence. We prebought the photo package and the pictures were great. Communication with the staff was excellent and they were well-organized and easy to deal with. Would definitely recommend it!

My 10-year-old son and I went surfing with these guys for two hours on a private lesson. It was a little more expensive than some of the other schools but worth every penny. We did a surf lesson in Maui the week before and it was not even comparable. Very knowledgeable surfers and we crushed it (at least we feel like we did). I really wanted to learn more about how to read waves and breaks and found it very educational as well. If you choose to do lessons, I would highly recommend going with HNL.
