“I never thought that I would be in the 2-way radio business” says Lad Panis, who is the owner and President of Starcomm Wireless. How he found himself in the radio communication industry has been an interesting journey. Starting his career in the restaurant and airline business taught him the importance of customer service. After leaving the Airlines business, his entrepreneurial spirit moved him start his own radio broadcast marketing company, Starcomm Sports Radio. He has spent over 20 years marketing and broadcasting high school and college sports on both radio and television, airing many football, basketball, and volleyball games.


Just as his broadcast marketing company was starting to gain momentum, he was introduced to 2-way radios. Never satisfied with the status quo and with that same entrepreneurial spirit, he leapt at the chance of starting a new business in a niche industry in Hawaii. Founded in 1994, Starcomm Wireless was created. Since then, Lad has guided Starcomm Wireless with the same values he learned early on in his career – where customer service is the top priority. He feels that good business involves “developing a relationship with our customers” and our success comes from providing great products with great service. He credits his dedicated service and administrative staff for continued success in the field. Lad believes that one of the most interesting things about being in the radio communication industry is that “there is always something new to learn – new technology, new equipment, new applications for 2-way radios in the communication field”.
