The Hawaiʻi English Language Program (HELP) is an intensive English language program run by the Department of Second Language Studies at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa in Honolulu. Our program focuses on Academic English preparation and students who complete the program may be conditionally admitted to the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. Our curriculum covers the four skill areas of reading, writing, listening, and speaking. In addition, students at most levels may choose electives that provide extra practice in the skill areas as well as grammar and TOEFL ITP test preparation. As part of the Department of Second Language Studies, our program is also a place of innovative and pioneering research. Since our program focuses on Academic English, classes focus on those skills that students need for university studies as well as in business. All HELP students are required to participate in service-learning activities, which provide students with the opportunity to volunteer in the local community. Students are able to learn more about American culture, practice listening to and speaking English in real-life situations, meet and work with people from all walks of life, and gain memorable experiences. As members of the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, students can explore and discover the campus, join campus events, activities, and clubs where they can meet university students. HELP students can also join their instructors in weekly activities that include surfing, hula, hiking, and visiting cultural sites around the island. Students come to CPC from various places in Honolulu because it is centrally located. CPC is a few minutes away from Ala Moana Shopping Center.

CPC fees are affordable and based on the duration of the program. The longer you stay, the less expensive the cost is.

Students determine their goals at the beginning and CPC helps students to accomplish their goals with a personalized learning plan.

The English Proficiency Program (EPP) has been designed to empower students to take control of their learning progress by using can-do goals and by using a personalized learning plan. The overall goal is to gradually improve the students' communicative fluency and academic skills in order to become successful English speakers. The program is comprised of eight different levels (i.e., True Beginner through Proficiency). Most EPP students have a student visa and are committed to the study of English full-time (twenty hours a week plus additional hours of preparation at home).

The Short-Term English Program (STEP) is for students who do not have an F-1 student visa and who study for sixteen hours per week, typically four hours per day, Monday through Thursday. Classes are offered in the morning and afternoon, depending on enrollment. Similar in structure to the EPP program, it allows students to experience and participate in a comprehensive program (i.e., True Beginner through Proficiency) for up to twelve weeks.

The TOEFL program is for students who have either completed the Low Advanced level or have placed higher than Low Advanced on the placement exam. The TOEFL program is open to all part-time (i.e., sixteen hours) and full-time students (i.e., twenty hours). This program prepares students to take the TOEFL exam through comprehensive review and practice of the skills that are commonly tested on the exam. The total number of hours it takes to complete the TOEFL program is 480 hours.

Our program focuses on enhancing your conversational skills in English through engaging activities and interactive learning! In our conversation classes, students will explore a wide range of vocabulary, phrases, and idioms that will make your conversations come alive. Practice your pronunciation in our CMAR class. Through fun discussions, role-plays, and group activities, you'll gain confidence in expressing yourself and engaging in meaningful conversations. Our experienced instructors provide a supportive learning environment, guiding you on a journey of language discovery.

Club Keiki is a seasonal children's program that is available in the spring (for one week) and in the summer (for a maximum of five weeks). Students are engaged in cultural activities for four hours in the morning and three hours of English classes in the afternoon with a half hour break for lunch in between. The total number of hours it takes to complete the Club Keiki program in the spring is 35 hours and 210 hours in the summer.The program includes tuition, activity fees, class materials, transportation, lunch, snacks, drinks and Club Keiki T-Shirts.
