In 1946, Helen Chock opened the doors to Helena's Hawaiian Food, a humble eatery on North King St. in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Over the past 64 years Helena's Hawaiian Food has been serving the local community quality Hawaiian cuisine. In 2000, the James Beard Foundation awarded Helena's Hawaiian Food the Regional Classic Award. Helena's is one of a handful of restaurants in Hawaii to receive this distinctive award. After nearly 55 years, the restaurant was relocated to its current location on 1240 N. School Street.

Helena's remains the simple and unpretentious eatery it was over 6 decades ago. The restaurant is now run by Helen's grandson, Craig Katsuyoshi.

Helena's Hawaiian Food started off as a business just like many. Over the years, the founder raised and taught her children the value of hard work, perseverance and passion. This business not only became a legacy of her own, but one for her entire family. Ku'uipo Kumukahi is a highly acclaimed entertainer known for her mastery of the slack-key guitar and soothing vocals. Her musical journey has been marked by numerous nominations and awards, including Female Vocalist of the Year and Traditional Hawaiian Album of the Year. With her remarkable talent and passion for preserving Hawaiian music, Ku'uipo Kumukahi promises an enchanting evening filled with heartfelt performances and unforgettable memories.


Join us on Wednesday, October 18th for a special musical performance from Ledward Keapana. Led Kaapana’s mastery of stringed instruments, particularly slack key guitar, and his extraordinary baritone and leo ki`eki`e (falsetto) voices, have made him a musical legend. He has been thrilling audiences for more than 40 years. With easy-going style and kolohe (rascal) charm, he has built a loyal corps of Led Heads from Brussels to his birthplace on the Big Island of Hawaii. Recognition by his peers earned Led 4 Grammy nominations in his own right and 2 wins on slack key compilations. The Performance is brought to you by the Kahala Initiative for Sustainability Culture and the Arts (KISCA).

Big Island Abalone operates an ethically raised, solar-powered abalone farm on the Kona coast of Hawai’i island. Kona abalone are raised in pristine, deep seawater and are high in nutritional value, including protein and collagen.


Our Gratin of Big Island Abalone is served with a house-made warm baguette and can be enjoyed at Plumeria Beach House.

Okonomiyaki is basically a “pancake” consisting of flour, egg, cabbage, and mountain yams, with ingredients which you can choose off our menu. Once cooked, the okonomiyaki is topped off with okonomiyaki sauce, a Japanese version of plum sauce, a mayonnaise sauce, seaweed powder and dried bonito flakes.
